Direct Commission Intelligence Officers (DCIOs) have the opportunity to become a key resource in one of the most critical and dynamic fields in the Coast Guard. The DCIO program offers high-performing intelligence professionals the opportunity to apply their skills in support of Coast Guard missions. As a DCIO, you’ll be working in an exciting environment that fuses intelligence with tactical law enforcement operations.
Who Can Apply?
We’re looking specifically for members in the Intelligence Specialist (IS) rating, CGIS agents, Department of Defense service members, federal government professionals, and government contractors with robust academic and/or career experience in human intelligence (HUMINT), human-derived intelligence (HDI), cyber threat analysis, counter-intelligence operations, or cryptology.
Career Path
Following your initial assignment, you can anticipate broadening your experience within the intelligence community, with increasing levels of leadership and management exposure as you progress in rank.
Commitment & Appointment Grades
You’ll receive a four-year active-duty obligation and a commission as an ensign (O-1), lieutenant junior grade (O-2), or lieutenant (O-3). A selection panel determines the appointment grade of each selectee, based on education, training, and work experience.
